There are a few big brands that come out of the bay area, Polka Dot being one of them. Last week I purchased a bar from a reputable dispensary, took about half and had a fantastic time.

Still riding that high, I decided to pick up another bar while preparing to weather the recent storm. I strolled into a Highland Park smoke shop and picked one up. It ended up even being cheaper than what the dispensary was selling them for!

I ended up taking 1.5 squares, as I was just interested in micro-dosing. Immediately the bar tasted like the driest cannabis-based edible that I’ve ever had. After about an hour or so, my suspicion was confirmed: I had eaten a fake shroom bar that was just a high-THC edible. I know it’s not the worst thing in the world to happen, but a mushroom micro-dose and an edible high are apples and oranges to me, especially considering I have a VERY low tolerance to edibles.

Edit: Here are the ways that I figured out it was a fake. I’d implore anyone who’s purchasing a chocolate bar to pay attention to the following details:

First and foremost, it tasted like weed and the come up and subsequent high was identical to an edible. Here are some other ways I was able to tell:

• The packaging was different. There weren’t any nutritional facts, ingredients or dosage information. The actual wrapper inside of the box looks completely different than authentic polka dot wrapping.

-The size of the squares were off.

-The QR code opens up a broken link

• There’s a sticker on authentic bars that allows you to scan for authentication.

These are all things that I didn’t notice before taking it. However, once I started feeling wildly different than I had previous time on mushrooms, I started connecting the dots.
